Episode 106: Tucker Carlson Comes From the Mouth

WARNING: Hey, it's me again, telling you for now a third time this season that if this is your first time listening to Debate This!, maybe pick a different one! This episode is a bit. It is a joke. Any similarity to actual persons, living or dead, or actual events, on our earth or on 616, is purely coincidental.

Join Yucker Carlson as he brings together a group of "influencers" from the across the multiverse to have an intellectual discussion. Today we are here to decide what is truth and what is fiction as we debate the most plausible conspiracy theories within the MCU.

The title of this week's episode was NOT selected by our Patrons in our Discord Community because we didn't want to spoil the bit! BUT if you want to help us choose the next one, join our discord and/or get some bonus content, become part of #ButtThwompNation at patreon.com/debatethiscast

Do you like it when we talk about comics? Do you like it when we say comic words into your lil ears? Would you like more content that includes us saying comic words into your lil ears? If you begrudgingly answered yes to any of those questions, check out our sister show, Avenge This! (formally known as The Ploose is Loose) where ever you get your podcasts!

Properties we talked about this week: Just every Marvel Movie to come out since 2008. SEO also dictates that I write also write Tucker Carlson, Ben Shapiro, Alex Jones and Jordan Peterson here, but I'm not happy about it.

Episode 105: Hang Em High at Mt. Winkybunion

Is there a cultural touchstone that has been as wildly touched as MTVs Making the Band? Probably! But to continue our season of ripping ideas straight from Music Television, we're pulling a Diddy and crafting the next musical supergroup. Plenty of characters have touched an instrument throughout the history of video games and that's the only requirement for them to be considered for our bands! So grab your headphones, crank your tunes and jam out with us as we decide which video game characters should form a band!

If Dreamtheater and Tool are your speed, then Todd's band will be for you. Maybe you prefer the stomping and clapping of Florence and the Machine or The Mumford and Sons. If that's your vibe then you can get tickets to Kyle's band! And then there's Matt's band. Hope you like bits and bluegrass...

Episode 104: Skimming the Slime Out of the Bottom

"Oh boy, here come those dang investors again. They just won't STOP asking us to pitch them new mashups of old videogames. And it's like their asks are getting more and more hacky and uninspired each time...like, this week they just screamed 'Make NPCs a protagonist!' and then sat there, nearly frozen in place." is what we wrote in our shownotes on May 4th of 2021. Well here we are fourteen months later and hot dog we're going again! This time we ask literally the exact same question as last time, "What NPC deserves to be the protagonist in their own game?

Kyle reflects on his Barista-Era and brings an old friend from Animal Crossing to the table. Matt picked one bit this week and boy does he lean into it. Andrew takes us all on a weird, horny adventure and, you guessed it, everyone disliked that.

FLAVOR TEXT: Dark Souls

Yes, indeed. In the Age of Internet Video the world of Content Creation was unformed, shrouded by fog. A land of dancing babies, epic meals, and Star Wars kids. But then there was Podcasting and with Podcasting came disparity. De-monetization and ad revenue, Copyright strikes and brand deals. Then from the dark, they came, and found of the Sponsorships of Lords within the code. Quibi, the First of the Dead. Best Fiends and their daughters of Chaos, spelled like "friends" without the "r". Blue Apron, the Lord of Sunlight, and their faithful knights Butcher Box and Hello Fresh. Thus began the Age of Podcasting. But soon, the ad revenue will fade and only Content will remain.

Special thanks to devoted skeleton of #buttthwompnation, "mgrum54" for commissioning today's episode!

FLAVOR TEXT: Gender in Comics

CONTENT WARNING: at 1 hour 38 minutes we discuss sexual assault in comic books.

Last year we discussed Social Justice in Comics (Season 4, Episode 21) which covered an entire spectrum of social justice issues that comics sometimes handled alright, but often times missed the mark. This week, thanks to continued support of Patrons like Sharkbait, we're dialing in to focus on Gender in Comics. Join us today as we talk demographics, representation, and the artists behind the characters. If you hadn't become familiarized with the terrible history of "fridging" then you will be after today.

We did our homework:

Episode 102: The Best Things in Life are Court Ordered

Wouldn't it be wild if we remade a 2000s-era reality show but made it about comics characters? Wouldn't that be nuts? We definitely haven't done that before!

The bit this week is all about giving supervillains a shot at redemption. Andrew learned an awful lot about Bane, Todd is all hopped up on sketchy science, and Kyle brings up police reform as well all groan about it. We're looking to create the best "Supervillain Road to Recovery Special," but we needed some help. Lucky for us, Justin Jordan (@freddiesroomate on TikTok) was free for the evening and he knows way more about comics than us.
