FLAVOR TEXT: Mortal Kombat

This month, we are diving into the entire story of the game franchise former Presidential candidate Joseph Lieberman doesn't want you to play, it's Mortal Kombat! For a property that's got more timelines than the MCU, it's actually pretty amazing how consistent Mortal Kombat is about its lore. True, the story is absolute bananas, but those bananas are dedicated to a singular throughline more so than most other video game franchises.

DCOMstructed: Halloweentown

A very happy Spooky Day to all who celebrate. For this momentous annual occasion, we present to you a preview of our new series, DCOMstructed, a monthly breakdown and discussion of Disney Channel Original Movies, or DCOMs. As is the season, our choice for this here holiday is none other than Certified BangerTM Halloweentown!

EDITOR'S NOTE: During the commercial break, we listened to an old promo for A Bug's Life as well as a few other Disney Channel liners of that time. Since famously-litigious Disney Corp included the whole-ass track to Baba O'Reily in that promo, we weren't able to include it on the free feed. If you like what you hear and want more of DCOMstructed (or you just want that Bug's Life promo), consider checking out our Patreon at patreon.com/debatethiscast! For $5 a month, you'll get access to the Premium feed, which right now includes our pilot episode we did about Phantom of the Megaplex as well as the entire backlog of our D&D real-play show The Office Drones.

The Office Drones: Episode Sacramento (LIVE At Origins Game Fair)

Last weekend, we had the opportunity to do a live show of our Patreon-exclusive D&D show, The Office Drones, to a very open-minded audience at Origins Game Fair here in Columbus, OH. It was a super good time and everyone there was really cool with playing in the weird space of a side episode based on a show that's been running for 3+ years on a closed Patreon feed they'd never heard of owned and operated by a podcast they'd also never heard of.

This is the recording of that episode, and it was a BLAST. We created all new characters that live in the extended Office Drones universe, but rest assured no prior knowledge is necessary to enjoy this one-off episode.

If you like this and want to experience more of the story of The Office Drones, go back and check out some of the supercut episodes we've uploaded to the free feed (Book 1: https://open.spotify.com/episode/17MTbQNZlJwUQJu0Fy1lVY?si=844a760ad62f402d; Book 2: https://open.spotify.com/episode/48LEjg152yvD7FKQ0bhIFq?si=0603a9edefda4166). FLAVOR TEXT: Bloodborne

The pale moon rises on Yharnam, a Victorian England-inspired city cursed with a mysterious plague known only as the "Beast Scourge." You arrive in Yhaarnam by way of spooky blood magic as the latest inductee to this underground society of Hunters, whose sole purpose is to hunt and kill the beasts terorrizing the town. But, this is a Dark Souls game, and so there's no possible way there could be anything hidden deeper in this cool werewolf game, right?

FLAVOR TEXT: Pokémania

In September 1998, the U.S. was introduced to the franchise that would soon become a worldwide phenomenon: Pokémon. After only 18 months, Pokémon was everywhere--on TV, in car CD players, in school cafeterias, and on kids' backpacks and bedsheets. You couldn't walk 5 feet inside a Kmart and not see something with Pikachu's likeness on it. How did this come about? Why, all of a sudden, was every child aged 7-14 suddenly screaming for their parents in to buy them booster pack upon booster pack of Pokémon cards in the summer of 1999? And, why oh God why is there a Pokémon Christmas album? Find out the answers to all these questions and more on our deep dive into the late 90s cultural phenomenon that was Pokémania.

Special thanks to our first-generational Pokémon Master, "@mgrum54" for commissioning today's episode. If you're interested in comissioning your own FLAVOR TEXT, come check out our patreon at patreon.com/debatethiscast.

FLAVOR TEXT: Apex Legends

A space marine gets marooned on a distant planet after a catastrophic spacecraft explosion and discovers a weapon based on ancient alien technology that has the ability to decimate planets. Together with his new A.I. buddy, this physically enchanced "super soldier" race against an army of space zealots to secure control of the superweapon.

No, we already *did* Halo. This is Titanfall, and it's totally different because it leads in to the real "combat evolved"...the Mad Max-esque bloodsport that is Apex Legends! Soldiers, murderers, mercenaries, thieves, and friendly robots alike emerge from across the universe to compete in a 30th century gladiator-like arena, full of guns, explosions, and--most importantly--a whole lot of cooldowns.

You can find the imgur gallery here: https://bit.ly/3BDAs4E.

Episode 107: The Tim Bit of '83 (ft. Young Deuces)

This season of Debate This! has braved the waters of some uncomfortable topics, but today we venture to truly uncharted seas. Lace up your shoes, strap on your pads, and do other sports related things because today we're talking IRL sports! Now we're not here for your Maddens or your 2s-K, we're here for Chaos and we want it in the Windy City. Today we embark on a journey which asks, "Which athlete should star in their own non-sports game?"

We asked Kyle to talk about sports and he told us about donut history. Todd takes a page from the WKRP in Cincinnati book. Andrew, to no surprise, is bringing us to the year 20XX. Obviously we needed someone on this podcast who actually understands sports, so we drafted Young Deuces of the Geekset podcast (@Young_Deuces on Twitter) to lead our team to our franchise-first championship.

Special thanks to Young Deuces for joining us on Debate This! today! You should check out Deuces's stuff! He's one fourth of a sick podcast called Geekset, he hosts 1 on 1 interviews on the Geekset YouTube channel, and the Geekset team (Deuces included) are working on a documentary focusing on Black Geek culture.
