Episode 131: Sovereign States & Monster Dates

Big wheels keep on turning and train whistles keep on blowing! It's Week 3 of Spooktacular Express Season and this week we're reviving those classic, Universal movie monsters. If you're a long time listener to DT!, you've probably heard the phrase "metal dracula" before. Well, for the first time since Season 1, we're back with that same, dumb energy.

There's no stops on this week's monster mashup, even though someone should have stopped Andrew before he rewrote Phantom of the Opera as a Glee episode. Todd brings the stickiest answer to the party this week while also making more puns than your body has room for. Matt talks about 70 year old monster lore and no one needed that.

FLAVOR TEXT: Emesis Blue

*Insert Matt's attempt at a train whistle here* This train keeps rolling as the Spooktacular Express makes a stop at the spooky machinima station! Join us today as we take a deep dive into the psychological horror known as Emesis Blue - a full 100+ minute movie made using assets from Team Fortress 2 by Fortress Films.

Before we can do that, Matt walks us through a bit of history of machinima, explains TF2 to us, does an overview of the roster of characters, and then gives us some of that good, good TF2 deep lore.

Episode 130: Spooky Sacks of 90s Stuff

*Insert train whistle here* It's Spooktacular Express time y'all! Gear up for our month-long, Halloween-themed content adventure as we bored the train for a Goosebumps land! That's right listener, we're reaching deeper into the Scholastic Book Fair well to create semi-spooky horror games. The goal this week is to create the best possible video game adaptation of a classic Goosebumps tale. Nobody tell R.L. Stine, but these games have just as much to do with the source material as their covers used to.

The Spooktacular Express makes a few stops in spooky locations this week. Matt requested the conductor to drop him off at a spooky, secret amusement park deep in the forest. Todd's doing a time travel thing in a big spooky tower. Meanwhile, Kyle reboots the very first Goosebumps book, or is it the first season of American Horror Story?

Episode 129: Live, Laugh, Lekgolo

Workers' rights and labor unions have been dominating the headlines in the US for the last few months. While that is probably the most culturally relative sentence we've ever put in our shownotes, it is also the sentence that inspired today's dumb bit. In an effort to prove that we are, in fact, a pro-union podcast, we're helping video game characters organize. So settle in for your union-mandated break and listen along as we answer the question "What group of video game characters should be the next to unionize?"

All three answers today force us to define what a "manager" is. Todd talks more about Voltron than you'd expect. Andrew is really committing to a bit within a bit. Kyle comes to the table to represent the population of our favorite sovereign nation.

FLAVOR TEXT: The Dark Tower

In the early 2000s, Stephen King listened to Lou Bega's Mambo No. 5 so much that his wife, who stuck by his side through decades of alcohol and drug use, almost left him. It is with that same furvor that King wrote the topic of today's flavor text The Dark Tower. King's eight and a half book epic follows the strong but silent Roland Deschart across the All-World and the Stephen King Extended Universe as he makes his way to The (titular) Dark Tower, and his destiny. Along the way our hero kills a kid, fights Lobstrosities and...well you'll just have to listen to the episode.

Special thanks to dear friend of the show just generally fantastic human being "Pflum" for commissioning this month's episode! If you want to commission your own FLAVOR TEXT and have us talk about literally whatever you want, check out our Patreon page at patreon.com/debatethiscast.

Episode 128: Four Weird Little Guys All in a Row

It should come as no surprise to you, dear listener, that DT!HQ is a pet-friendly office. We've hosted a few pet shows here in the office, but last year, the DT! No Bummers Program Committee hosted a dog show like no Thanksgiving Day has ever seen. Well the DT!NBPC is back at it, but dogs are so 2000 and late. This year, we're hosting a cat show in hopes of determining which cat is the best cat in all of video games!

Kyle brought a low-hanging, albeit delicious fruit that will surprise absolutely no one. Matt is the wild card this week. Andrew's answer will make you think about Food Network way more than you're ready for.

Episode 127: A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Perv Pods

Hey, do you guys remember Secret Invasion? That Marvel show with Samuel L Jackson and Daenerys Targaryen? Yeah, that one! Well it just came out in July and all four of us watched it. Not only did we watch it, but tens of other people watched it as well. So, in honor of this massive smash hit about shape shifting aliens, the debaters are here to pitch some new games. This week we're asking, "Which video game sequel would be ...better?... with shape shifting Skrulls?"

Matt is here to test your tollerance for collectathons as well as puns. Kyle is bringing out an old, DT! classic. Todd's answer is honestly just gross.

DLC EPISODE: Extended Good Vibes! Clip Show 2

Happy Tuesday! All four of us were traveling together this weekend for Kyle's bachelor party, and we opted for IRL friendship over recording an episode. Instead, we humbly present to you a sampling, a best-of if you will, of our Patreon-exclusive post show, Extended Good Vibes! For the uninitiated, we keep the mics rolling for an extra 30ish minutes after each DT! episode to talk about what got left on the cutting room floor, what we're watching on TV, and just our general opinions on the universe. Today's ramblings are from the post shows of episodes 122-126. We hope you enjoy this easy listening week, because we'll be back with Episode 127 next week and boy is it a WILD one.

If you enjoyed these clips today, consider joining the ranks of #ButtThwompNation over at patreon.com/debatethiscast! You can join our exclusive Discord server for as low as $5 and gain access to EGV! for $10.

Episode 126: Time Cops and Time Signatures

If you've listened to this podcast for more than a few weeks, you've probably heard at least one of our hosts complain about common RPG elements like turn-based combat and complex menuing. Maybe you agree with those complaints, or maybe you don't, but one thing is for sure, the garden-variety "JRPGs" just aren't for everyone. There are gamers out there in the gamerverse who prefer baby games for babies. One of those gamers may cohost this podcast. Well, in honor of those who prefer controllers with two buttons, this week we're simplifying your favorite crunchy video games!

Todd is going to talk more about classical music than you're prepared for. Kyle may or may not be dunking on everyone's favorite 5v5 hero shooter. Andrew is going to draw the line between Final Fantasy and kart racing games, and it will be critically acclaimed.
