FLAVOR TEXT: NieR

A good, good anime boy finds a magic talking book, and embarks on a journey to save his sister with the help of a lovable pair of colorful outcasts. Now, this might sound like your typical JRPG fare on the surface, but Yoko Taro's NieR franchise is anything but typical. Coming off the heels of three playthroughs of NieR: Replicant ver.1.22474487139, Andrew takes us on our own coming-of-age journey to learn the story and lore behind NieR.

Episode 60: My Thirteen Dads

There's nothing quite like being a parent. Teaching your child the ways of the world, watching them grow, and passing down a condensed shard of pure magic that can summon the hellish avatar of their departed mother who sacrificed herself to a death cult masquerading as a monotheistic religion! On today's episode, Kyle, Matt, and Todd pass down their fatherly wisdom to their collective son, Andrew, to help him fight off his schoolyard bully with the help of extraplanar demigods from the Final Fantasy series.

Episode 52: Everything Changed After the Chili Wars

Too often we've witnessed countless whirlwind romances take flight atop the Empire State Building and have watched too many supervillains blow up the Golden Gate Bridge. It's time for other lesser-known American cities to get their time in the spotlight. And so the head engineers at Debate This! Games, Ltd. are designing some of the cities in which we've lived into the next greatest AAA video game. Yinz guys want to drive Crazy Taxi-style dahn the Parkway? How about an open-world RPG themed around independent chili vendors? And is Daytona Beach just its own version of a zombie apocalypse?

Debate This! is a dumb show where grown men yell at each other over video games and comics. Check out more of our incessant arguments at debatethiscast.com and keep the conversation going by following us on social media @debatethiscast.

DLC EPISODE: Forborgurf and the Office Drones Do a Dungeon

Earlier this year, we birthed an office-based MMORPG from our terrible mind-holes, complete with stereotypical office jobs mapped onto traditional RPG roles. And since it's now a legal requirement that every registered podcast in 2019 record a D&D session, allow us to present to you an office-based D&D campaign. Who wants boring old swords and magic when you can fight your enemies with timelines and bureaucratic red tape?!

Be sure to check out the original episode where we created these good, good RPG characters.

Episode 25: Hold That Conference Call, I’m Jungling!

We here at Debate This Corp, LLC, want to make a game but we don’t really know anything about game development. But there is one thing we do know about, and that’s Corporate America. So we would like to present to you, dear listener, our pitch for a massively-multiplayer online RPG based in the world of 9-5 office jobs. You know how cool it is to shoot fireballs from your hands? Well what if instead of fireballs, those were witty social media posts and JIRA tickets?

Episode 7: More Airtight Than Yoshi’s Butthole

Mario has had many sidekicks throughout his career. This week’s episode has us discussing which of his past partners is the best. A flu-addled Andrew goes toe-to-toe against a sleep-deprived Matt and things get...gross. Todd brings an old flame to the table.

Episode 5: Might, Magic, and Mario

In the last years of the SNES life cycle came a game that grew a whole new generation of RPG fans: Super Mario RPG. Fans are still clamoring for the sequel that never came. Instead, we received two new franchises as spiritual successors in the form of the Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi series. We discuss whether or not the new games successfully improved upon the original, but Todd instead focuses on why Mallow isn’t the most useless character.
