FLAVOR TEXT: Animorphs

It's 1996. You wake up, rip off your Space Jam bed sheets and get ready for school while Power Rangers plays in the background. Normally, this is a drag but today is special. Today is Scholastic Book Fair Day. You walk into your classroom with a ripe $5 bill that your mom handed you like it's a Get Out Of Jail Free card. You walk into the gymnasium to find a Moroccan street market of books and other brightly colored school supplies. One jewel in particular has caught your eye this month. You see a cover sporting some choice computer-illustrated animation (like in Beast Wars but even cooler) but of a boy your age transforming into a lizard!

Welcome to Animorphs, the mid-90s YA novel series about identity disorder, loss, clinical depression, and PTSD...all centered on a group of shape-shifting teens fighting a secret proxy war against invading alien parasites.

Episode 52: Everything Changed After the Chili Wars

Too often we've witnessed countless whirlwind romances take flight atop the Empire State Building and have watched too many supervillains blow up the Golden Gate Bridge. It's time for other lesser-known American cities to get their time in the spotlight. And so the head engineers at Debate This! Games, Ltd. are designing some of the cities in which we've lived into the next greatest AAA video game. Yinz guys want to drive Crazy Taxi-style dahn the Parkway? How about an open-world RPG themed around independent chili vendors? And is Daytona Beach just its own version of a zombie apocalypse?

Episode 51: The Myst Was Inside of Us the Whole Time (ft. Nathan Norman Brandt and Kam Konek)

Get ready to get Fully Immersed. If there is one thing that we love to do here at DT! HQ, it's reboot old shit that nobody asked for. And so it stands to reason that VR games were bound to eventually get that treatment. Excited to get an 1800s-era poop disease in Oregon Trail VR? Or how about experiencing a lifelike barrel roll in Starfox 64 3? No? Well then maybe reading low-poly books in a new Myst game? Driving a mech in a first-person Armored Core sequel? OK yeah, that last one actually sounds pretty rad.

Subscribe to The New Entertainment System Podcast to hear more of Nate and Kam! If you like our brand of Reese's-like video game mashups, then the nightmare-algorithm of the New Entertainment System is right up your alley.

SIDEBAR: David Harbour Is My Real Dad

The MCU's Phase 4 is still shrouded in mystery as we stare down the proverbial barrel of major releases of the standalone Black Widow movie and Disney Plus's first streaming series The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Also Sony is doing a Morbius movie that no one asked for. And we'll be ending 2020 with WandaVision and The Eternals Starring A Very Steamy Kumail Nanjiani. Today, we're going to take some time to talk about what we know so far and where we think some of these franchises are headed.

DISCLAIMER: This episode was recorded before a national emergency was declared, and we've all since come to understand that some of the release dates discussed are most likely subject to change. These are very weird times, so please make time for your own mental health, safe healthy, and be wary of misinformation. Distractions are good things in situations like this and sometimes it's easier to just focus on how jacked Kumail Nanjiani got for The Eternals.

Episode 50: Tony The Jet The Hawk’s Xtreme Gear Giveaway

Wow, Episode 50, huh? Here we are...a little bit older, a little bit collectively balder, and most likely a lot closer to death! So what better way to celebrate two years of pouring through the recessess of fan wikis then to return to the greatest fan Wiki ever: Sonic The Hedgehog. Time to set that "Days Without Talking About the Sonic Comics" timer back down to zero.

Episode 49: Quadrifolium of Love

With DC's Birds of Prey And Then Harley Quinn Is Here Too hitting the Box Office this month with the sound of a thousand missed opportunities, we thought it would be a good time to reflect on the history of the series. And by that, we mean 2002's cancelled The WB drama, "Birds of Prey." And by that, we mean actually just pitch adaptations of other, better franchises to get their own sexy teen prime time drama. How about Dexter's Lab, but in high school? Or Power Rangers living in an apocalyptic world? And who doesn't want a healthy dose of marital infidelity with The Flintstones?

SIDEBAR: I'm Here to Talk to You About the Smash Bros Initiative

Three grown men spent Valentine's Day together watching a children's movie about Sonic the Hedgehog, and now we're going to talk about it. But here's the thing you guys...this movie is legitimately GOOD. Like, not even so-bad-it's-good like The Room. We actually enjoyed ourselves just about the entire time through this thing. Todd enjoyed it so much that he went to try and recreate that biker bar fight scene, so he died. So here are Matt and Andrew giving you their hot takes on Paramount's Sonic The Hedgehog.

With the decline in cable TV viewers (and a few notorious legal "uh-ohs") comes the inevitable decline of the glory and majesty that is the television pitchman. Episode 47: The Most Beautiful Bee in Uranus (ft. David Flamm)

Once Sonic heralded in the 1990s with his cool-guy, take-no-shit attitude, game companies across the world were racing to find the next raddest platforming mascot. And boy were there a lot more misses than hits. With the help of David Flamm from Left Trigger Right Trigger, we rifle through some of the best of those misses and attempt to breathe new life in these needlessly horny misfits.

Check out Dave's work with Left Trigger Right Trigger, a biweekly video games book club. You can also listen to the entire back-catalogue of Fullmetal Bazinga, an improv sci-fi dramedy based on the final season of The Big Bang Theory.

FLAVOR TEXT: The Witcher

It was bound to happen. As soon as someone uttered "...place of power, gotta be" on this show, it was destined that we would one day be uploading an episode where Andrew "ummm actually"s everyone through each of the books in The Witcher series. Well that day has finally arrived! And with the release of the fantastic Netflix adaptation, we decided to focus this episode on the first two books, which are actually a collection of several short stories that set up this universe. We're taking you through each of the short stories found in "The Last Wish" and "Sword of Destiny," and then comparing how those stories are represented in the Netflix show. Toss a coin, nerds...it's time.
