Episode 62: The Sovereign Nation of Bob-Omb Battlefield

Mario's world might look like it's all hyper-saturated sunshine and rainbows, but under that candy-coated exterior lie some real sinister themes. Like, while that cartoon-y manta ray boss in Super Mario Sunshine might seem like happy fun at first, it's pretty disturbing when you consider that it's literally a shadow that is slowly devouring all living matter in its wake. That gigantic 8-ft walking bomb might have a silly mustache, but it is also a gigantic 8-ft bomb filled entirely of gunpowder and loose ethics. This week, we take a look at the darker side of some of Mario's more enigmatic boss encounters.

Episode 61: Pirate Ships Don’t Have Feet (ft. SMJ)

It was the final days of The Summer of '93. Whitney Houston was topping the charts and the world was absolutely enamored with early-gen CG dinosaurs. Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers suddenly exploded onto our TVs and changed the lives of kids and amateur martial arts enthusiasts everywhere.

Fast forward 25 years. Four ordinary thirty-somethings do the unthinkable and conscript their favorite Mega Man bosses to fight off the impending kaiju menace. Yet another summer has passed since that day, and so it's time to conscript a whole new team of heroes to save us. A team of teenagers. A team of teenagers with ATTITUDE. A team of teenagers with attitude who also drive ten-story mechs shaped after our favorite cartoon tropes.

SIDEBAR: The Real Rhino Was the Friends We Made Along the Way

And here is where we'd talk about the newest MCU movies...if we had one!

Today's superhero movie discussion is taking a 180, and so instead of talking about movies to come, we're talking about some of our favorite hated superhero movies from the past. Come on in for some hot takes on Man of Steel, two commercially failed Spider-Man movies, and--of course--more of Matt yelling at us about Ghost Rider.

Episode 60: My Thirteen Dads

There's nothing quite like being a parent. Teaching your child the ways of the world, watching them grow, and passing down a condensed shard of pure magic that can summon the hellish avatar of their departed mother who sacrificed herself to a death cult masquerading as a monotheistic religion! On today's episode, Kyle, Matt, and Todd pass down their fatherly wisdom to their collective son, Andrew, to help him fight off his schoolyard bully with the help of extraplanar demigods from the Final Fantasy series.

Episode 59: Big Mr. I’s Spooky Investment Portfolio

With Paper Mario: The Origami King coming out later this week, we pulled in our team of expert RPG architects to help build the game's first (and best) DLC. It should also be stated that we refuse to accept truth and continue to tell ourselves that this game is going to be an incredibly crunchy RPG, baked with a deep strategy and complex lore. Knowing that, why not attempt to shove Bugzy from the Kirby series in there as a playable partner? Or what about that elephant from Yoshi's Story who stood there holding a sign in nothing but a diaper? No? Well then, allow us to pitch you retrofitting an entire subplot from Chrono Trigger in there? Totally works. No more questions.

Episode 58: Real-Time Orphan-Ground Strategy (ft Zak Schneider)

Every villain is the hero of their own story. This week, we're flipping the script to place some of the most classic video game villains in the protagonist's seat. What would it play like to hunt Link with Ganon's army? How different would Bioshock be if you instead played as Andrew Ryan? The answer, apparently, is an incredibly crunchy RTS.

Episode 57: Bouncing Around at the Speed of Time

Oooh boy here we go talking about the DC Universe again. We're attempting to being more thunder to this permanant-second-place franchise of characters by injecting them into some wild-ass 16-bit era games. Andrew bounces a rubber child through a magical mini-golf course filled with trees that also have faces, Kyle builds a white hat hacker into AMAZO to fight alongside Digital Mega Man, and Matt discovers that Ecco the Dolphin is the lost Aquaman comic that humanity needed.

FLAVOR TEXT: Overwatch

Follow along the episode with our Overwatch image gallery.

Even if you've never played Overwatch, you've most definitely heard of it. You've watched it played on TV, you've seen the constant feed of YouTube content, and you've heard your nephew talking about it incessantly before they were "Dabbing a Fortnite". Even though the game is 4 years old, Blizzard's Overwatch is a staple of the eSports community, and is the undeniable king of team shooters.

But even if you play this game competitively, chances are you've never heard of the complex story that lives behind all of the emo skeletons and sassy mech drivers. For some reason, Blizzard decided to create a deep and compelling backstory of a robot uprising (naturally), an Avengers-esque team of superheroes, a second robot uprising after the robots realized humanity is flawed (classic), and a talking Science-Gorilla who eats a lot of sandwiches.
